It is a thick [[soup]] containing [[Barley#Food|pot barley]], [[beans]], [[potatoes]], [[carrots]], [[parsley]], [[celery]], [[leek]]s, [[tomato]]es, [[onion]]s, [[garlic]], and usually a substantial amount of [[Curing_(food_preservation)|cured]] [[pork]]. Depending on the amount of water used, it may be a soup or a thick porridge similar to a risotto. 

==Etymology==
The word {{lang|sl|ričet}} is typical of central Slovenia, including [[Ljubljana]], and derives from [[Styria|Styrian]] German {{lang|de|ritschet}} or {{lang|de|ritschert}}. Etymologists suggest that {{lang|sl|ričet}} is a derivation from two [[German language|German]] expressions: {{lang|de|rutschen}}, "to slip, slide", and {{lang|de|rutschig}}, "slippery".
