Carvajal was born in [[Valparaíso, Chile]].  He studied fine arts in [[Viña del Mar]], later moving to [[Santiago, Chile|Santiago]] to study applied arts.  Carvajal worked in Chilean comics for nearly 50 years, creating the characters Dr. Mortis and Black Sloane.
