It includes faculty from diverse disciplines, including human studies, letters, economics, medicine, agriculture and mathematics. 

Kyoto University adopts the [[University of Edinburgh School of Informatics|Edinburgh]] definition of [[Informatics (academic field)|Informatics]] as the study of information in natural and artificial systems.
