==Playing career==
Gow made his debut for Bristol City in 1970 at the age of 17.<ref name="Ponting">Ponting, I. (1990) Bristol City Greats. Bristol Redcliffe Press Ltd.</ref> He was a member of the side which achieved promotion in 1976 to the First Division.<ref name=Ponting/> He left Bristol City aged 28 following the team's relegation to the Second Division in [[1979–80 Football League|1980]].<ref name=Ponting/>

After his time at Bristol City he played for [[Manchester City F.C.|Manchester City]], appearing in the [[1981 FA Cup final]], and [[Rotherham United]],<ref name=fl/> before transferring to [[Burnley F.C.|Burnley]] in August 1983.<ref name=burn>{{cite web|url=http://www.claretsmad.co.uk/feat/ed35/gerry_gow_342624/index.shtml |title=Clarets mad – Burnley players |publisher=Claretsmad.co.uk |access-date=2013-10-20}}</ref> He then moved to [[Yeovil Town F.C.|Yeovil Town]] where he was player manager for a time.<ref name=fl/>
