'''Creative unions''' ({{Langx|ru|творческие союзы}}) '''in the Soviet Union''' were [[voluntary association|voluntary societies]] that united [[Soviet Union|Soviet]] citizens according to their [[creativity|creative]] ([[art]]istic) [[Job|occupation]]s. They were similar to [[trade unions in the Soviet Union|Soviet trade unions]]; more specifically, in Soviet [[ideology of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union|ideology]] and [[law of the Soviet Union|law]] they were a subset of trade unions, because creative professionals were officially a type of worker. Unofficially, many of their members differentiated themselves culturally from [[blue-collar worker]]s.<ref name="Willis_1985_65-90">{{Harvnb|Willis|1985|pp=69–90}}.</ref> 

The earliest of them were established in 1932 after disbanding the previous unions, such as [[RAPP (association)|RAPP]], [[RAPM (association)|RAPM]], and [[AKhRR]].

Like nearly everything in the Soviet Union, they operated under the strict ideological supervision of the [[CPSU|Communist Party]], and what is more, the creative unions were means of an effective control over the artistic production of their members{{citation-needed|date=February 2019}}: the members of these unions had priority in publishing of their works. Usually people expelled from a union could not make any significant money from their creative work. On the other hand, being a member was [[trade unions in the Soviet Union#Role in the Soviet class system, chekism, and party rule|associated with various perks]].
