== Election and term of office ==

From 1848 to 1968, the attorney general was elected to a two-year term in the November general election. In the event of a vacancy in the office of the attorney general, the [[governor of Wisconsin]] may appoint a replacement to fill the remainder of the term. ==Powers and duties==
