The league expanded to 13 teams from 12. [[Cradley Heath Heathens|Cradley Heath]], [[Southampton Saints|Southampton]] and [[Coventry Bees|Coventry]] had all moved up to [[1949 Speedway National League Division Two|Division Two]] whilst [[Wombwell Colliers|Wombwell]] dropped out.
