Seat rental

Pew or seat rental was not only the province of Anglican and Lutheran churches. Until its demolition in the 1970s the Unitarian church in Adelaide, South Australia, had small brass-framed glass name-holders affixed by the aisle to the ends of certain pews, nearest the east wall as I remember, and until the 1950s allocated to subscribing families.
