Brand Extensions
There was also a THIRD brand extension to the Today show. It actually preceded Early Today & Later Today in 1999, as the FIRST brand extension. In 1982, Today introduced an earlier show titled "Early Today" (same name as the show in 1999). It was hosted by Gumbel & Pauley, and aired from 6 to 7 AM, preceding the Today show. It only lasted a year, as doing three hours a day (and having to get up an hour earlier) started to wear on the two hosts. The show was cancelled in 1983, and replaced by NBC News at Sunrise. Could someone add this fact in under the Brand Extensions. I'm not a regular contributor to this page, so I'd feel kind of funny stepping on someone's territory. Thanks
Number of episodes
The infobox says there were "20,718" episodes as of January 1, 2008, but doesn't cite a source for this figure. The number "20,039" was added by an anonymous IP, and the figure has been updated since then, but I found no source for these figures. In 2007, The Houston Chronicle said "more than 20,000 episodes", but this figure may have come from Wikipedia. I'm not sure how this number makes sense, because by my count, there were:
:1862 weeks from January 14, 1952 to September 18, 1987, while the show was broadcasting 5 mornings a week
:254 weeks from September 20, 1987 to July 31, 1992, while it was on 6 mornings a week, and
:804 weeks from August 1, 1992 to December <s>29</s> 28, 2007, while it was on 7 mornings a week.
By my calculations, and assuming exactly 1 episode per morning, that gives 1862 x 5 + 254 x 6 + 804 x 7 + <s>3</s> 4 = <s>16,465</s> 16,466 episodes as of January 1, 2008. ::This number was also added by an anonymous IP and had no source. The second link you give says there were 20,441 total days between January 14, 1952 and January 1, 2008 (not including that date). How could there have been 276 more episodes than total days of broadcasting? And that doesn't even acccount for the days that Today was definitively not broadcasting: i.e. weekends before 1987, Sundays before 1992. There may have been some special editions on some of those days, but I doubt there were 277 or more, and certainly not over 4000.
::I'm going to update the figure based on 1862 x 5 + 254 x 6 = 10834 broadcasts until July 31, 1992, plus 6074 days from August 1, 1992 up to and including March 18, 2009, giving a total of 16,908 episodes so far. == Website to get MOST today show episodes from 2011! ==
Okay, so I was able to get episodes of the TODAY show and i put them ALL up on the link below:
Have fun looking at the today show! <span style="font-size: smaller;" class="autosigned">— Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.72.186.75 (talk) 16:36, 10 June 2011 (UTC)</span><!-- Template:UnsignedIP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->
Start dates in infobox
I had made this change, but it was reverted by an IP with a history of vandalism warnings. As the infobox is currently written, it gives the years when Lauer (1997) and Guthrie (2012) became co-anchors, but when Roker (1996) and Morales (2006) started on the show at all. Lauer joined the show as news anchor in 1994, and Guthrie as third hour co-host in 2011. One of two changes should be made: Either all four should be given the dates when they started their current roles - Lauer 1997, Guthrie 2012, Roker and Morales as third hour co-hosts (2007?), or all four should be given the original start dates of their tenure on the show. I prefer the latter, but I don't feel strongly about it. Whichever way it goes, it should be consistent. Thoughts? What's the controversy, exactly? Because the section doesn't mention it, despite being placed under controversy--68.230.66.230 (talk) 02:00, 25 May 2013 (UTC)]
Willard Scott
May i suggest any edit to the Former on-air staff section weather anchors refering to Willard Scott it says: "The semi-retired Scott who gained fame through his antics that included costumes and props, --->(Still occasionally appears as Roker's fill-in)<--- That Statement (with arrows) isn't true he does not Still appear as Roker's fill-in the only thing he does is wish Centenarians Happy Birthday.
Significant format change September 2013
I hope I am wrong about this, but the show seems to have taken a significant format change as of 9-16-2013. The well known show or at appeared to have jettisoned (hard news leading in the 7am hour, with the lead interview in the first half hour, followed by softer stories in the 8am hour) in favor of a social free for all. News is no longer the lead for each half hour. In fact respectable journalism seems to have given away to loud chat feats, nervous POV camera operation and commercial plugs and Internet updates. This is a very important pivot for Today and someone who is less POV than I should cover this chaotic state of the program. == Natalie Morales ==

There has been a controversy on this article about when Morales joined the Today show. :You're new to Wikipedia; the site is constantly changing. Al is not an achor on Today, so his inclusion in the infobox under "presenter" is inaccurate. :Actually it does not. The headline of the article describes him as "co-anchor and weather and feature anchor". The initial paragraph of that page says that he
I propose that the section Today (U.S. TV program)#Today with Kathie Lee and Hoda be split into a separate page called Today with Kathie Lee and Hoda. The fourth hour of Today is notable enough for its own page and its section is large enough to fill it. Today with Kathie Lee & Hoda has been on for over 10 years and definitely isn't the same show as the earlier hours of Today. "After three years in the Florida Showcase, Today moved back to the RCA Building on September 13, 1965."
I spent a fair amount of time skulking around NBC in the mid-60s, and my recollection is that the Florida Showcase was in the RCA building, making the above quote misleading and confusing. Lou Dobbs Tonight is an American political and financial talk program that was hosted by Lou Dobbs.

The program initially aired on CNN from its launch under the title Moneyline, as its main financial news program. The program later shifted to an opinion-based format focusing on political and economic commentary, and was likewise renamed Lou Dobbs Tonight. Field correspondents provided additional reporting and occasionally served as guest anchors. During Dobbs' tenure, prominent politicians and economists were regular guests on the show.

On November 11, 2009, Lou Dobbs stepped down from CNN. On March 14, 2011, Dobbs moved to Fox Business and hosted a new incarnation of Lou Dobbs Tonight. On February 5, 2021, Fox Business canceled Lou Dobbs Tonight after nearly 10 years on the channel after a defamation lawsuit was filed against Fox News by Smartmatic, a voting machine vendor, over statements made by Dobbs and other Fox Business and Fox News anchors.

In January 2024, the program resumed airing as a streaming show on Lindell TV/FrankSpeech. Lou Dobbs died in July 2024.

CNN era
Lou Dobbs Tonight began with the name Moneyline with the premiere of CNN and was CNN's main financial show for over 20 years. For a large portion of those years, it aired on CNN International as well.

In late 1997, Dobbs hired former ABC News and NBC News executive producer David Bohrman to turn the program into a more general evening newscast, which would be called The Moneyline NewsHour. The program was half financially focused and half general news. It was the first regular program at CNN to have its main control room outside of Atlanta.

As the show moved more towards general news and economic and political commentary, it was renamed Lou Dobbs Moneyline and then Lou Dobbs Tonight. The show was among CNN's most watched.

On November 4, 2006, a taped weekend edition of Lou Dobbs Tonight, entitled Lou Dobbs This Week, began airing. The weekend show, which aired every Saturday and Sunday night, discussed issues from the past week and the week ahead.

On November 11, 2009, Lou Dobbs left the network, telling viewers that the night's episode of Lou Dobbs Tonight was his last. Further, he said, "Some leaders in media, politics and business have been urging me to go beyond the role here at CNN". Although he had a contract with CNN until the end of 2011, CNN agreed to release him early. It was announced that John King would host a new program in the time slot and that the transitional program CNN Tonight (initially hosted by John Roberts) would replace Lou Dobbs Tonight in the meantime. John King's new program, John King, USA, debuted in Lou Dobbs' time slot on March 22, 2010.
On January 4, 2021, Dobbs stated on air that "everyone knows" crimes were committed in the election process in several states, but he went on to state that "...we still don't have verifiable, tangible support" for those alleged crimes.
Regular features
One regular feature on the show was "Exporting America", in which Dobbs documented American companies that outsourced jobs to overseas facilities, as well as those businesses that took special steps to keep jobs on U.S. soil. He compiled a list of companies that had outsourced, and he posted it on the show's website and occasionally repeated it on the air. Dobbs frequently criticized U.S. international trade policy, saying that it insufficiently protected American jobs, and advocated what many consider economic protectionism in contrast to free trade. As part of his criticism of globalization, he often noted that the United States runs trade deficits with virtually every major trading partner it has, especially China. The journalist also published a book titled Exporting America: Why Corporate Greed Is Shipping American Jobs Overseas, detailing the individuals and interests behind exporting U.S. jobs overseas.

Another regular feature was "Broken Borders", which highlighted what Dobbs considered to be the problems and costs associated with illegal immigrants and the inefficiencies in the U.S. Border Patrol and immigration policies in general. Dobbs has remained consistent on this view on the Fox Business Network as well.

Correspondents and production
Kitty Pilgrim was a correspondent for the CNN version of the program and the most frequent substitute anchor when Dobbs was not on. Other reporters attached to CNN's Lou Dobbs Tonight included Dana Bash, Lisa Sylvester, and Suzanne Malveaux. The show was broadcast live from CNN's New York studios, located in the Time Warner Center. The Fox Business version of the program originated from Studio B at the [[1211 Avenue of the Americas|News Corp.
