In [[music]] and [[jazz improvisation]], a &#039;&#039;&#039;melodic pattern&#039;&#039;&#039; (or &#039;&#039;&#039;motive&#039;&#039;&#039;) is a cell or germ serving as the basis for [[repetition (music)|repetitive]] [[pattern]]. It is a figure that can be used with any [[scale (music)|scale]].
