Project title Automatic Packages Support Checker
Project details: It a debian package which will let developers know how many packages will go unsupported after merging the latest commits done by the developer.
Synopsis: A developer after commiting a few changes into Debian Kernel can run the application for choosing all packages available or specific packages. Then the tool runs giving the list of packages loosing support
Benefits to Debian:
- Changes in commit can be easily be linked to dependant packages.
- Effects of commits can be visualised easily.
- Helps in testing and also points of potential threats
- Faster rate of development.
Deliverables:
- Package mostly written in C and python that performs the above specified task.
- A GUI based package if time permits or as future development to the project.
Project schedule:
'March 25th to April 22' - I will learn and investigate into tools similar to what is mentioned below.
'April 22 to May 2nd' - Will finish first prototype of package which checks on few existing packages.
'May 2nd to Mid Term evaluation' - Will finish the debugging and documentation of the package
Mid Term evaluation to Final Evaluation - Will upgrade the package to simpler use and better efficiency using multithreading.
Exams and other commitments: Semester exams from May 20th to June 30th. I have to complete a website https://unitedgraphic.in by end of March.
Other summer plans: I have an internship running and I am willing to quit the internship if I get into GSoc.
Why Debian?: I have been using Debian based Linux distro from 1.5 years now. Its an excellent OS and I thought it would be great if I could help with its development.
- Are you applying for other projects in SoC? I might.I will update if I apply for another one.
