Name: Tiago Ilieve
Contact/Email: email: tiago.myhro@gmail.com
Background: I'm a student of the Information Systems course at the Computer Science Department of the State University of Montes Claros (Universidade Estadual de Montes Claros - Unimontes). I've been reading about and studying Linux (not the kernel itself) for more than 10 years. For at least 5 years I've been maintaining Debian/Ubuntu servers, both physical and virtual machines, for my own or being paid to do that for others. It was only in the past couple years that I've became a full-time Debian desktop user, after installing it on my laptop. I've spent the whole past year coding in Python (mostly Django, although I'm not good at creating the front-end stuff). This year I've been doing tasks related to systems administration and writing documentation - I also have a blog (unfortunately it is written in Portuguese).
Project title: Bootstrap-vz
Project details: https://wiki.debian.org/SummerOfCode2014/Projects/bootstrap-vz
Synopsis: Bootstrap-vz is a tool to build Debian clean and custom virtual machines for different virtualization environments. It is a rewrite of build-debian-cloud.
Benefits to Debian: It will help to build Debian images for a maximum of targets and use cases.
Deliverables: The goal of the project is to add a Docker provider to build VM for Docker and to add additional plugins yet to be defined (Salt, Chef, ...).
Project schedule: I still have to discuss with the project's mentors about the schedule. I can begin the work anytime, not only because I've quit my part-time job last month, but also because this semester I have classes only two days a week.
Exams and other commitments: I believe university exams here are quite different from those that you are used to in Europe/North America. I have a final-paper to finish and present by the first week of June. If I have to do any final exams, those will be placed in the first weeks of July.
Other summer plans: None beside those university-related commitments.
Why Debian?: Debian is my first operating system choice for nearly any machine that it could be installed around me. I truly admire the Debian Project for its size and marvelous organization, helping and being helped by so many people around the globe. It would be a joy to participate in this project, where my Linux and Python skills should be very useful.
Are you applying for other projects in SoC?: No.
