linux-2.6 enhance deb Packaging
Mentor: ?MaximilianAttems, debian-kernel
Summary: Enhance linux-2.6 deb packaging to also build relevant headers and source packages.
Required skills:
- Makefile, Kbuild
- Understanding C
- Read up Debian packaging guidelines
Description: Individual users, small organisations and Debian-based distributions like grml.org like to build their Linux images from an upstream release or git repository rather than using Debian's Linux kernel packages. In the upstream source, 'make deb-pkg' produces neat linux-image packages, but lacks the ability to also build headers (+ kbuild) and source packages. These are necessary for users of those distributions to build out-of-tree modules and for the distribution to satisfy GPL requirements. The changes would have to be reviewed by the Debian kernel team and upstream developers, and should not depend on additional tools outside the Linux source.
