LLMs

Hi Luis, thank you for contributing to the Debian Wiki! May I ask, have you used large language models/LLMs/AI (e.g. Chat GPT, etc.) to write some content? jmtd, 2025-03-03

Hi Luis, thank fyou for continuing to contribute to the wiki. I'd really appreciate it if you could reply to my question above. jmtd, 2025-04-16

If he won't, I will. My intuition says "yes", because of regurgitated misconceptions like "users should regularly change their password". ?miegiel, 2025-04-26

There is several case scenarios that password expiration are used and useful. I put the warning, quote: "IMPORTANT NOTE: It's recommended organizations to not force regular password expiry." I could add the technicality that it was recommended by NIST and when, but what is the point of doing it? Historical purpose?

If a user is searching on how to change a password, is explicitly there, and if a system administrator is searching for password expiry, is also there. I tried to put on relatively easy way to digest for basic users, with some added descriptive functions for system administrators.

Case scenarios:

Not always is about security per se, or recomendations from NIST or in my specific case, ITSG-33. If you don't agree, cut away. For me, password expiration has its place and i used it in the past. But ultimately, for who this article is for? I would suggest it should be, from basic users to more advanced ones. Leaving a group of users out is just wrong. By the way there is updated NIST guidelines for 2025 regarding password management. I would like to emphasize that it's just that, guidelines, while in reality, every single place i worked for, has unique policies regarding to security. 2 cents for what it is worth. PS: i'm using my company wiki were me and my staff make our notes and keep our procedures and tutorials and helpers updated. Our notes. I tried to pass from from our (private) MediaWiki, but debian wiki markup syntax is slightly different.
