Kino can acquire video from Firewire DV cameras. It is a good solution for video capture, although a bit limited for editing.

It has not been actively maintained since 2009.
Kino is known to work with the following cameras:
- JVC GR D50e - Capture ok, Controller AV/C ok, Record to tape ok
- Canon - Capture ok, Controller AV/C ok, Record to tape ok
- Sony, Panasonic and many other DV cameras should be supported
- Sony DCR-HC26: Capture OK, Controller AV/C OK, Record to tape unknown
