DebianOn is an effort to document how to install, configure and use Debian on some specific hardware. Therefore potential buyers would know if that hardware is supported and owners would know how get the best out of that hardware. The purpose is not to duplicate the Debian Official Documentation, but to document how to install Debian on some specific hardware. If you need help to get Debian running on your hardware, please have a look at our user support channels where you may find specific channels (mailing list, IRC channel) dedicated to certain types of hardware. |

Important Note
Bios
Security -> Secure boot -> Disable secure boot
Startup -> Boot (press enter) -> Set priority order
Startup -> UEFI/legacy -> UEFI only (necessary for preventing errors like "efibootmgr: EFI variables are not supported on this system" when using grub-install)
Startup -> Boot order lock -> Enable (necessary for avoiding Windows to change it and prevent you from entering the BIOS again if dual-boot is used)
Security -> Virtualization -> Intel Virtualization Technology (necessary for avoiding errors listed by dmesg)
Security -> Anti-theft -> Computrace -> Permanently disabled (optional: be aware of possible tracking/trojan issues
Configuration
Disclaimer
I am not dual booting with Windows.
I performed a minimal install from the netinstall iso and am using i3wm. I have not tested any other desktop environments on this laptop.
I opted for Encrypted LVM during install.
Display
lspci -nn | egrep -i “3d|display|vga”
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation HD Graphics 530 [8086:191b] (rev 06) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation GM107GLM [Quadro M1000M] [10de:13b1] (rev a2)
After install, if you run dmesg and see the following message:
Direct firmware load for i915/skl_dmc_ver1_26.bin failed with error -2
firmware-misc-nonfree from the non-free repos or the version from 01.org should fix the problem.
I installed Bumblebee with the proprietary Nvidia Drivers.
sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install bumblebee-nvidia primus primus-libs:i386
Audio
00:1f.3 Audio device: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-H HD Audio (rev 31)
Worked fine. Installed pulseaudio for Firefox to have sound.
Mouse
Trackpoint worked directly after install.
Installing xserver-xorg-input-libinput and copying /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/40-libinput.conf to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ worked for the touchpad.
See this wiki article on the SynapticsTouchpad
Power Management
Installed 'cpufreqtools, eth-tool, fancontrol, lm-sensors, pm-utils, powertop, smartmontools, tlp, tlp-rdw, tp-smapi-dkms'.
Currently reporting 6+ hours on a full charge with minimal tweaking.
WiFi
02:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 8260 (rev 3a)
Install non-free iwlwifi
