GENtle
GENtle is a tool for the virtual cloning of DNA sequences. There are voices that prefer it over VectorNTI, ?GeneRunner, DNAStar or ?LaserGene. Find out yourself, Debian and Ubuntu readily offer it.
It is very educational, i.e. very close to the molecular processes. You understand cloning, so you also understand GENtle, and vice versa.
Comments and ideas for improvement
Intron-Exon-Boundaries
- annotation of introns e.g. with donor- and acceptor-sites
- sequence view
- should optionally hide introns
- show adapted translation to amino acids
Sequence analysis
- merging of sequences from multiple amplifications
- integration of ABI traces
Sequence Alignment
- options of the command line tools should be presented to the GENtle user
- DNA sequence shall be alignable after their protein translation but shown as DNA
Protocol function
- graphical presentation of cloning process
- preparation of detailed instructions from which a technician could perform the wet-lab work
Missing digests
- blunting
- Klenow fragments
- DNA modification like methylation
- Mung bean nuclease
Missing features
- Overhead-Extension-PCR
