Land of Israel

Renewal?

How is renewal judaism a den.? Isn't it just another hasidic den.? And shouldn't Dor Daim be included? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.206.248.147 (talk) 13:16, 24 January 2007 (UTC).Reply

Criticism link

I propose adding a link to the criticism page. Back in December, the Mormonism, Buddhism, and Islam templates all had links to their specific criticism page, however Islam removed their citing this template as precedent. Ironically, someone wanted to include the Criticism of Christianity link on the Christianity template, and cited those as precedent. If this is going to be a matter of "Well the Jews don't have the link, so why should we" or "The Mormons have the link, so should the Muslims" etc, we should decided as a whole whether links to these criticism pages are appropriate for the parent religion templates. I believe that all religion templates should have a link to the parent criticism page (if one exists), and that is what I am proposing here. What do we think?-Andrew c 00:15, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I won't have a problem. Criticism and kvetching is our favorite activity anyway. ←Humus sapiens ну? 00:53, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your comment. A centralized discussion on this general topic can be found at Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)#Criticism link on religion navigational boxes. -Andrew c 03:07, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
The discussion was in favor of adding criticism links to appropriate infoboxes across the board. However, I do not know the best placement for this link. I was thinking somewhere under the Judaism/core principals header would be best, but if someone else wants to try and place it, please be my guest.-Andrew c 02:51, 21 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Criticism of Judaism already has been added to Template:Tl and I think it is indeed appropriate there, because that TL is dedicated to religious topics. I am not sure whether the Criticism link really belongs here, because this particular TL is more about history rather than strictly religion. At least, I can think of a few links more relevant to Jews and Jewish history than religious Criticism of Judaism. ←Humus sapiens ну? 04:09, 21 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

1) Duplicate link to the Holocaust and 2) Is Ten Lost Tribes an ethnic division?

Two unrelated topics:

  1. There is no reason to duplicate the same link. I propose either to replace the 2nd instance with Final Solution or remove it.
  2. Do the lost ten tribes belong in the template next to Ashkenazi · Sephardi · Mizrahi? In any case, if we include the lost ancient tribes, then maybe Israelites deserve to be included? ←Humus sapiens ну? 01:08, 24 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have removed both for now, thus saving 2 lines. ←Humus sapiens ну? 01:16, 24 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

change of order

Since Jewish political movements are very recent historical phenomenon, and Jewish history and persecution are very old, I'm moving Jewish political movements to the end. Yehoishophot Oliver 15:11, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Languages

Do we really need all those languages? They certainly seem less relevant than the other sections.

I think the bottom two lines of the languages section could easily come off. Is there anyone who objects to this? --Eliyak T·C 21:09, 28 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm going to go ahead and remove those lines. --Eliyak T·C 17:44, 4 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

What's with the massive whitespace on the right side of the template?

Does anyone else see it? And why on Earth does it show up? It's so annoying. Lockesdonkey (talk) 04:16, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

China

Is the mention of China necessary in the 'Population (Historical)' section? It isn't historically an established religion just as it is in say India or Iran etc. It’s just not something that’s been relatively recent, and the alleged 'history' is still rather dubious according to many sources, I think it should be removed from the list. Expandable version

I've put together a version which makes use of Template:Tl to considerably shrink the template's footprint. Here it is (code is at User:Eliyak/work/jew):

One great feature is that a section can be automatically focused. For example, {{User:Eliyak/work/jew|principles}} produces:

User:Eliyak/work/jew User:Eliyak/work/jew

--Eliyak T·C 17:36, 15 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Lack of comments means I am moving ahead with the change. If it proves unpopular, it can always be reverted. --Eliyak T·C 01:54, 22 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • How about this version, which uses Template:Tl..? It's also a little thinner, for the sake of smaller windows/screens:
User:Sardanaphalus/Template workspace/Jews and Judaism sidebar User:Sardanaphalus/Template workspace/Jews and Judaism sidebar
Should be possible to tweak any unfancied styling. The template page would also include Template:Tl, i.e.

Template:Collapsible lists option

Menorah?

Is it really neccessary for a menorah to be used in the template. For one, Hanukkah is a very unimportant holiday in Judaism, and most would not celebrate it if not for its proximity to Christmas. Secondly, A picture of a Torah would do the job much better. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.194.203.128 (talk) 03:00, 4 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

It's a picture of a seven-branched menorah, an ancient symbol of Judaism, not a nine-branched hanukiah (Hanukkah menorah). — Malik Shabazz Template:Toolbar 03:29, 4 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Texts need to be edited.

Ehm, the Tanya should not be on this list. Nor should the Tur or Zohar IMO but that is up to discussion. 93.172.54.207 (talk) 18:09, 13 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Could you explain why you feel that way? — Malik Shabazz Template:Toolbar 18:30, 13 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

These books only represent segments of Judaism. This template is universal and should not contain information relavent only to some segments. 12:11, 18 January 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.118.11.112 (talk)

Messianic Judaism

Please add Messianic as one of the denominations of Jews. Messianic Jews are one of the largest growing denominations of Jews in Israel and the world. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.253.170.115 (talk) 14:42, 24 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Please read Wikipedia's article about Messianic Judaism. It isn't considered Judaism by any of the major Jewish religious movements, which means it has no place in a template about Judaism. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 04:56, 25 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Messianic Jews might be considered a related group to Jews, but it has a very fluent ethnic definition merging into multiple nationals adopting it, rather that ethnic Jews, practicing Christianity.Greyshark09 (talk) 18:06, 11 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Jewish "ethnicities"

"Ethnicities" renamed into "communities", since Jews are an ethno-religious community with single Jewish ethnicity and sub-groups within. Related ethno-religious groups (Khazars, Samaritans, Lembas) were separated from ethnically Jewish (Ashkenazi, Sephardi, Mizrahi, Yemenite) communities in the bar.Greyshark09 (talk) 18:13, 11 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Leadership

I propose deletion of the leadership section. There are only about 25 people listed, any any listing is bound to be very incomplete and extremely subjective. ypnypn (talk) 16:52, 17 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Population topic

Hi, I was wondering if in the Population section we could instead have North America and South America rather than North America and Latin America and the Caribbean. There are countries in Latin America that also belong to North America so it makes no sense to have one section be geographic (North America) and the other geo-linguistic (Latin America). It's too arbitrary. Mexico, for example, belongs to both North America and Latin America. All the other regions are entirely geographic (Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania, etc) but for some reason only Latin America is geo-linguistic. DemianStratford (talk) 05:57, 4 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
