Power output

Car and Driver reported in June 2005 that the MC12 produced 624 SAE net horsepower. This equates to 465 kW or 633 PS. I know that this discussion is not yet settled in Talk:List of automotive superlatives, but I wanted to note that these numbers were reported in a reputable source. --SFoskett 00:02, Jun 9, 2005 (UTC)

Roadster?

It is mentioned in the current article that 50 coupes and 25 possible roadsters are being produced. In my understading (based on various articles in the Topgear magazine and the Car magazine) only 50 coupes are being produced. The coupes are targa tops meaning that the roof panel comes off to change the car into a convertible.

Rewrite

I am recreating this article from scratch at User:James086/maserati, so if anyone is interesting in helping that would be great. Remember sources and try to keep the wording and format clear because this article is virtually unreadable.

You are completely right, sorry, I must have misread the table. It was Zhuahai so I have changed it. That link was basically a mirror of an older revision of this article ([2]) which I found using the history. I didn't include that information because it was unsourced but if you can find sources for it go for it. I will look for some of the info aswell. Factual issues

Recently someone brought up some factual disputes about the article on my talk page, if anyone can confirm any of the info that would be great, I'm currently looking into it. I also took it down from Good article nomination because of this. The issues raised were:

• The team racing in the Italian GT 2005 was only Racing Box
  • [3] Shows that there were 2 teams, with several drivers each. Playteam Sara Free had car number 12 and Racing Box had car number 1. Playteam Sara Free had 2 drivers, Racing Box had 3. Will look for other sources however
  • [4] only mentions racing box
  • [5] References only Racing Box.

I tried to make minor copyediting changes. Please check all my diffs carefully, as sometimes seemingly innocent changes in wording can change factual content.

• I was surprised there was no article for "air scoop." You can remove the redlink if you like.
• I tried to put in wikilinks wherever I saw words that are specific to the car industry. As a cleanup exercise, you may want to read the article slowly, word by word, and see if there are others that can be added.
• I wasn't sure about "were also contested by"; did you mean "were in competition with"?
• I wasn't sure which victory was being referred to in the lead, where it says "achieiving a victory" This could be clarified.
• I wasn't sure about "The car is noted for its size and consequent obscurity.." this clause is ambiguous, since abscurity can have different meanings.
• I also left a note about another point in the diffs; please check.

British spelling Inconsistency.

Very minor comment but in the Reception header we have the line Other criticisms include the lack of trunk, rear window....... Would it not be better to use the word "boot" but still with the same wikilink (car boot redirects to trunk (automobile))? I would be bold but as it's on the main page I'd prefer a bit of consensus. "Tyres"

Under the 'wheels' heading, the word 'Tyre' appears multiple times, even linking to the 'tire' article. Is this a widely accepted spelling, or should it be Americanized to 'tire'? Ghostwo 15:25, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Based on the fact that the wikipedia article for 'tires' is, in fact, titled "Tire", this seems to be the wiki standard. Additionally, a wikisearch for 'Tyre' found 3823 pages, while 'Tire' yielded 25,856 pages. Now this is obviously skewed, as it includes synonyms and towns, but you get the point. Still, I suppose it doesn't really make a difference. I guess us americans will have to wait awhile to rid English of the english >:-)

Grand tourer?

Can the MC12 really be called a grand tourer? I mean it dosnt even have a boot and is so low that it has trouble on normal roads. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Svennex (talk • contribs)

The car has been called a grand tourer by Maserati and due to the subjective term of supercar it was deemed better to call it a grand tourer (Maserati never called it a supercar, they did call the MC12 Corsa a supercar though) and not risk the possible conflict. Does the fact that the engine is placed in the middle not rule it out as a grand tourer, as well as the fact that it is designed primary for racing instead of luxury you would expect in a Grand Tourer? Also the 'Enzo Ferrari'/'Ferrari Enzo' on which it is based is stated as being a Sports car. And the car's manufacturer is not nessecarily the best source. Therfore I think it qualifies better as a sports car. I would like to change that part of the article if no-one argues this within a month or so. Support. Despite what Maserati may have called it, (perhaps Grand Tourer because it competed in the GT1 racing class?) i believe the MC-12 does not fit the description of a true "Grand Tourer." GTs typically are Front or Front-Mid engine, with a 2+2 seat layout as well as luxury apointments that would otherwise be left out of a sports car; especially one produced for the purpose of homologating a race car. The MC-12 is essentially a street version of its race car counterpart and i would say does have the same sort of comfort found in Maserati's other vehicles, like, the GranTurismo for instance. Right, the race version of the MC12 competes in a GT racing class, which if you read the article simply states that a GT class race car is one that closely resembles a production car; the MC12 street car. Other cars that race in the GT2 class are the Chevrolet Corvette, Dodge Viper, and Ferrari F430; and none of these would be classified as Grand Tourers either. Measurements

Why are SI measurement units written as words instead of abbreviations? "Millimeter" instead of "mm"? "Kilogram" instead of "kg"? "Kilometers per hour" instead of "km/h"? Any problem with me changing it? --Pc13 15:24, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

It's part of the WP:MOS that measurements should be written out in full in text and abbreviated in brackets eg. "The car weighs 1335 kilograms (2943 lb)." See WP:UNITS. Hi Template:U, I know you haven't looked at this in a long time and probably won't, but for future reference, Daily Sportscar is a reliable source for matters regarding, well, sportscar racing. Ultimate Car Page is a user-generated database (by someone who's seen these cars in person and was around when they actually raced, still user-generated nonetheless), and all of the others are total shit.
