Before the Free Software Foundation put its support behind Nupedia, the FSF planned on creating a free encyclopedia under the GNU Free Documentation License. Suggested names included the following:

GNE: GNE's Not an Encyclopedia (like: DanGeiser [originator], MikeWarren)
GNU/Alexandria
GNUpedia
GNUledge
Anoichtopedia
