Cheetah jaw biomechanics

Cheetahs have the second highest compressive strength per trabecular bone volumetric fraction* at the temporomandibular joint among all carnivore mammals (784.4 Newtons), second only to that of the wolverine (940.8 Newtons), and above that of Malagasy civet (714.4 Newtons), Honey badger (710.8 Newtons) and Kinkajou (693.2 Newtons).

This mechanical trabecular bone strength indicates a surprisingly high bite force for its size as the masticatory muscles may be stronger.

*In this case, a 10 mm high × 5 mm diameter cilinder.

Male infanticide

Male cheetahs seems to be much more tolerant to cubs that are not their offsprings compared to other felids.

Cheetahs also seem to be one of the few species in which males do not kill cubs that are not theirs in order to force the female to come into oestrous again.

There is supposed evidence of infanticide in male cheetahs, but this appear to be purely circumstantial.
