Lepton is a village near Huddersfield, in the civil parish of Kirkburton, in the Kirklees district of West Yorkshire, England. History

The name "Lepton" may mean 'leap farm/settlement'.[1] Lepton was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Leptone.[2] Lepton was formerly a township in the parish of Kirkheaton,[3] in 1866 Lepton became a separate civil parish, in 1894 Lepton became an urban district, on 1 April 1938 the district was abolished and merged with Kirkburton Urban District.[4] On 1 April 1938 the parish was abolished and merged with Kirkburton.[5] In 1931 the parish had a population of 3,323.[6]
