Clues
Number two sounds like a big dog. - Dog's sound, breed of dog?...
Number five is named after a servant of João II. ' The king said "I'm the lord of lords, not the server of servants." No idea about that one.
Number ten is named like a device mirroring the sky. - Sea? Or Mirror? 'Like'could be Sea - C.

Toucan
I get the following from List of nearest galaxies:
- 2 Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy -- Canis Major meaning "Big Dog"
- 5 Large Magellanic Cloud -- which is named after Ferdinand Magellan, who was a servant of Joao II
- 10 Sextans Dwarf Galaxy -- named after the constellation Sextans, which is latin for sextant, a device for making celestial measurements
- 30 Tucana Dwarf Galaxy -- named for the constellation Tucana, the Toucan
So the animal in question is the Toucan.
And I, too, have eaten a Milky Way or two in my time.
