The proposals section of the village pump is used to discuss new ideas and proposal that are not policy related (see Wikipedia:Village pump (policy) for that).

Recurring policy proposals are discussed at Wikipedia:Village pump (perennial proposals). If you have a proposal for something that sounds overwhelmingly obvious and are amazed that Wikipedia doesn't have it, please check there first before posting it, as someone else might have found it obvious, too.

To make a proposal first create a page with the new proposal. The page can exist with any name you want. If the proposal is related to an existing Wikipedia page or discussion, like Wikipedia:Categorization for example, the proposal could be located at Wikipedia:Categorization/A proposal for blah blah blah. If you want, you could connect the proposal to this page, for example: Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)/A proposal for blah blah blah.

After you have created a page with your proposal make an entry at the top of the list below:

  • Include a link to the page with your proposal
  • Include a one sentence discription of your proposal
  • Sign and date your post (by typing "~~~~" or clicking the signature icon in the edit toolbar).

Discussions about the proposal should not be on this page. The discussion and vote should be on the discussion page for each proposal.Template:Talk other

Consensus: There are better ways to do this.
Next Step: User:So-and-So will submit a new proposal.
