I found this slashdot post very similar to the dynamics that was working around KIX (This article) sometimes back. It looks like New Zealand telecom monopoly deliberately depeered for other Internet Exchange to sabotage VOIP. This consequently left the country Internet completely handcapped, a situation that could easily have been avoided by a peering point. (Services within New Zealand should have remained working even after the loss of international links) I find this similarity very funny because of the difference in the two countries. [1]
