I don't think the description is correct; I believe until the 1990s all area codes had a 1 or 0 as the middle digit, so that 561 can't possibly be "one of the oldest area codes". I currently live in Palm Beach County, but I've only lived here about five years, so I don't know its area-code history. Dtobias 23:58, 25 Dec 2004 (UTC)

305 split into 407 and 305 in 1988. In 1996, 407 itself split to become 407 and 561. In 2002, 561 split to become 561 and 772. (407 also split at other times; so did 305; but that's not relevant here.) All this information can be found at www.lincmad.com/newareacodes.html; the lincmad.com Web site has a wealth of information on area codes in the NANP. So you're right, Dtobias: 561 only dates from 1996.msh210 17:53, 20 Jan 2005 (UTC)
In fact, www.lincmad.com/cities_d-l.html indicates that the article's contention that 561 "encompasses the entire Palm Beach County, and nothing more" is false. I'm gonna fix it now.msh210 23:46, 24 Jan 2005 (UTC)
